ODOUR ELIMINATED – AT VIC SEWER TREATMENT PLANT
CHALLENGE / ISSUE: ODOUR
Two municipal sewage treatment lagoons in regional Victoria were the subject of odour complaints. These facultative lagoons were shallow with ‘ragging’. Facultative lagoons have an anoxic anaerobic layer at the bottom which generates hydrogen sulphide and methane, high in odour. A Mixing & Aeration Solution was needed with the ability to operate in shallow depths; effectively de-stratifying the anoxic zone and mitigating against ‘ragging’.
SOLUTION AND RESULTS:
All Purpose Pumps delivered 2 x Hyflow HMA 2.2kw series Floating Aerator-Mixers with large surface area inlet screens. The units were deployed with minimal time and effort. These Hyflow Aerator-Mixer’s motivated the anoxic layer into suspension, converting it to an aerobic zone. The gasses produced in this zone being nitrogen and carbon dioxide, are odourless. Dissolved Oxygen increased from 1-2 mg/L to 7-8 mg/L which achieved a COD/BOD expulsion that complies with EPA effluent guidelines. Having proven the efficacy of these Aerator-Mixers, the client purchased another two units; completely eliminating the Odour issue.
WHAT OUR CLIENT SAYS:
“The Aerators supplied by All Purpose Pumps eliminated our odour problem and greatly increased our dissolved oxygen. We purchased 4 HyFlow Aerators and are now discussing our next Aeration Project with them” Rodrigo – Wastewater Treatment Specialist.”
